Hi, I’m Amber Ashton

I will be graduating from Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a BFA in Photography. This unique combination allows me to approach problem-solving with both technical expertise and creative insight. In July, I will be joining ABB’s 2025 Discovery Program: ELDS Manufacturing Ops & Supply Chain Track, marking my first time moving out of state. Through this rotational program, I will continue developing my skills in process optimization, manufacturing, and supply chain management. With a passion for efficiency, innovation, and design, I am eager to explore opportunities that merge engineering, creativity, and strategic problem-solving to drive meaningful improvements in industry and beyond.

My Story

I’m a Louisiana native on track to graduate in Spring 2025 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a BFA in Photography from LSU—an unexpected but purposeful combination that reflects my passion for both problem-solving and creative expression. Engineering has always been my focus, but photography expanded my perspective, shaping how I approach challenges. When I realized I was just 10 credits away from a BFA, I saw an opportunity to merge my technical and artistic skills to craft meaningful solutions.

My curiosity about how things work started early—I was the kid who took apart mechanical pencils just to understand the mechanics inside. That same curiosity has driven my academic journey, whether optimizing supply chains, designing products, or working hands-on in a shop. One of my most rewarding projects involved designing and fabricating a classroom locator sign using recycled materials. This experience reinforced my passion for combining engineering with creativity while teaching me the value of resourcefulness in problem-solving.

Challenges have shaped me just as much as my ambitions. After Hurricane Ida displaced my family, we moved from hotel to hotel before finally finding stability in an apartment. Despite the uncertainty, I remained committed to my education, work, and faith. This experience strengthened my resilience and adaptability, reminding me that perseverance is key to both personal and professional growth.

Beyond academics, I’ve immersed myself in organizations like SWE, NSBE, and IISE, where I’ve built a strong professional network, developed leadership skills, and gained confidence in advocating for myself. Whether mentoring peers, speaking at events, or collaborating on projects, I’ve learned that the best opportunities come from stepping outside my comfort zone.

Now, I’m preparing for the next step in my journey—joining ABB’s 2025 Discovery Program in the ELDS Manufacturing Ops & Supply Chain Track. This opportunity will allow me to gain hands-on experience in global manufacturing environments while further refining my technical and creative skills.

Looking ahead, I aspire to a career in R&D, product development, or themed entertainment—fields where I can merge engineering expertise with creativity and innovation. Whether designing efficient systems, constructing hands-on solutions, or capturing moments through my lens, I’m driven by the challenge of turning ideas into reality. My passion lies in solving complex problems, improving processes, and creating innovative solutions that make life better for others—while exploring the world in the process.
